About 12 years ago, my wife was diagnosed with cancer. Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (same type that Jackie Kennedy recently died from). She was diagnosed by Group Health HMO physicians, with the recommendation of radiation therapy. 18 treatments of radiation gave the response that "We got it all."
Six months later, she was found to have it again! Because of the type of cancer and her young age, her case was studied by the University of Washington Cancer team and Mayo Clinic. The recommendation was a choice of 1) experimental extensive radiation, 2) experimental extensive chemotherapy, or 3) a combination of the two. My wife, being a nurse, was at first reluctant to look at non-traditional treatments. But by now the options were not very appealing, and she was desperate to find a cure, being as our two children were very young at the time.
She prayed that God would heal her enough so that she could be our children's mother until they entered school. This was very personal to her, being as her mother had died when she was young, and knew firsthand what it was like to be a child without a mother.
To make a long story short, God answered her prayer. This was a three step process
1) A special prayer and anointing service was held by our church elders following the Bible's prescription for healing. James 5:14 & 15 instructs, "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up."
2) A naturopathic doctor prescribed a strict diet with no animal products and low sugar. The diet was prescribed along with exercise, and a herbal medicine. She has faithfully done these to this day.
3) Additionally, we believe that we need to tell others about how God has answered our prayers. In so doing, helping others to find a better way to living and peace.
