In 1978, Leiske's bought a new Ford van. Donn Leiske, the vocational shop instructor at Lake Quinault High School. He took the van into the shop cless and instructed his students to cut off the fenders with a cutting torch. His wife, Kathie stood by his side, while the students tore into the project. One year later, in 1979, the van was shown in the Portland Rodster Show and the Seattle Autorama Show, winning three trophies from the two shows. Additional trophies were earned at smaller shows as well.
Students from that group have been mechanics, autobody workers, autoglass installers, and a NASCAR race car driver!
